To most people, Søndervig appears to be a modern tourist town focused on shopping and entertainment. However, there is also another side to Søndervig as one of Denmark’s oldest seaside resorts. On the town walk, you’ll hear amusing and fascinating stories that paint a different picture of the town – a side that most people don’t see when they visit the seaside resort.
Discover the authentic Søndervig as the town once looked, with its seaside hotels and beach life, but also a place in Denmark that experienced the occupation to the fullest extent 80 years ago. Søndervig was, in fact, transformed into a large military base. The remains of the German bunkers are fascinating and, in a way, amusing to see in several places within the holiday home area. Both the occupation and the liberation 80 years ago came to play a very significant role for the seaside resort of Søndervig.
Hear also about life by the North Sea. This was, of course, a life in a very harsh natural environment, resulting in several disasters such as shipwrecks at sea. However, the sea also offers entertaining tales of seaside life and exceptionally magnificent natural scenery. It is precisely this natural environment that presents both enormous potential for development in areas such as tourism, and a major challenge in terms of coastal protection. Every year, the sea takes a piece of the coastline.
The guide is a qualified historian with several years’ experience in recounting the history of the West Coast.
