Grit Dörre has been a freelance photographer since 2003, based between Frankfurt and Dresden. Her background spans craft training in Dresden and Potsdam, a master's degree at TU Dresden, and assistant roles in advertising and architectural photography in Berlin and New York – including a stipend at Grey Advertising and the title of European Architectural Photographer 1995.
But the CV only tells part of the story. What drives Grit is the reduced view – the composition stripped of distraction, that reaches straight to the essence of a subject. Images that hold grace and timelessness, strength and delicacy, all at once. For her, photography isn't lifestyle or medium or document. It's pure light painting. A window in time, opening onto the world.
She works best near the sea. In Hvide Sande, she finds exactly that: coastline, light and the particular stillness that makes the clearest seeing possible. Come and find out what she does with it.
At the end of July, German photographer Grit Dörre takes up residence at ART56°, bringing her camera and her instinct for what hides inside the light. For Grit, photography is neither document nor decoration – it's pure light painting, and deliberate stillness. Open studio Saturday to Wednesday – come and see the world through her lens.
