From 30 May and the first days into June, artist and former biologist Inger Inanna Weidema invites guests into ART56° at Æ Gammel Havn 9; HKT's artist residence at Tysk'havnen in Hvide Sande.
Inger Inanna Weidema's artistic practice is rooted in visual and material curiosity. After many years as a biology researcher with a Ph.D. and work in nature conservation, she has dedicated the last ten years to visual arts, where textile techniques, mixed media, printmaking, and biomaterials form her toolkit.
— My practice is grounded in visual and material curiosity. Environmental concerns, biodiversity and critical plant studies inform my creative process. But I also try to open myself to a more inquisitive wonder that supplements the research-based approach, says Inger Inanna Weidema.
Her works are both organic and sculptural – networks of threads resembling mycelium or root structures, objects reminiscent of seeds or cells, all created with respect for the material and nature's own processes. She reuses and recycles materials as much as possible and literally collaborates with plants to raise questions about our relationship with and care for nature.
— The feeling of encountering and connecting with nature is a deeply felt personal interest. My main inspirations are the 'ways of Nature' – observing how things grow, decay, and entangle in nature.
This combination of scientific precision and artistic intuition creates works that fascinate aesthetically while inviting reflection on humanity's relationship with the living world. With a degree in visual and textile art from the Open College of the Arts in the UK and based in Copenhagen, Inger Inanna Weidema brings a unique voice to contemporary textile art.
