Betina Hastoft is a fine art photographer whose work explores the big themes: the universe, the sky, life, love and dreams. Her way in is quietly radical: a shell picked up on the beach at the North Sea.

For years, Betina collected shells on her annual visits to Hvide Sande and, like so many of us, eventually tucked them away and forgot about them. Then she started looking at them through her camera. What she found was a hidden world of beauty and character in every single shell – and the series HAVET was born. A tribute to the natural creations of the sea, and a reminder that everything is larger than ourselves.

Every work in the series is unique – one motif, one piece, no editions. And the original shell travels with the work when it finds a new home. Come and see what the sea has been hiding.

In August, fine art photographer Betina Hastoft returns to Hvide Sande – the place where she has spent years collecting shells along the wild North Sea coast. At ART56° she opens up their hidden universe through her lens and her series HAVET: a tribute to the gifts of the sea that deserve more than a life forgotten in a drawer.
