As the Gateway to the North Sea Søndervig is often associated with the North Sea and the beach but Søndervig actually lies right up to no less than three fjords. Ringkøbing Fjord, which is one of the largest in Denmark, offers a wide variety of water sports for the whole family. The fjord is not particularly deep but has a good sandy bottom and therefore attracts kite surfers, wind surfers, kayakers and swimmers who prefer a relatively calm water experience.
Every year, Stadil and West Stadil fjords are feeding grounds for hundreds of thousands of geese, migratory birds and breeding birds. During the spring and the autumn they arrive in large flocks and settle in the meadows along Stadil and West Stadil fjords. On a trip going north from Søndervig it is easy to spot the many birds that mingle with the grazing farm animals.
If you are staying in a summer cottage in Søndervig there are good opportunities for bicycling along and around the fjords. On a bike you can really get up close and comfortable with Mother Nature.
