Ships and fishmongers

The people of Søndervig lived of fishing for generations and the children where often asked to eat more fish and less potatoes... The prefered boat was a flat small one which was easier to drag down to the water from the beach. The boat was powered by sail or paddels. In the end of 1800's fish stalls were to be found in Søndervig, where the fishermen and fishmongers lived in the Spring months. Until the late 1920's fishing still took place off the coast in Søndervig. Today all fishing takes place of the coast of Hvide Sande fishing port. Kilde: Lokalhistorisk arkiv, Kloster
