TRAVEL IN THE DUNES

MAREHALM

Horsetail is as delicate as any other plant. Planting horsetail and helmets is seasonal work and takes place in autumn.

New helmets and marsh straw are planted where the planting has been destroyed due to too much traffic.

The new plants wither completely within 14 days and then sprout immediately from the ground.

The new plants are protected with pine tops. Fyrkvas is used to block off paths that should not be there. It is therefore important that only the established and numbered paths are used.

Remember that the dunes do not tolerate running and playing! Our beaches are so nice and wide - there is plenty of space to spread out.

Information

ADDERS – VIPERA BERUS ADDER

The viper is a snake with a distinct black zigzag stripe down its back. However, some vipers can be solid black or brown. It can be up to 104 cm long.
It is found in most of Denmark. It is typically found on heaths and in dunes, but it can also be found in many other nature.

The viper is not particularly aggressive but very shy, and will therefore flee as soon as possible in the presence of a human.

People react differently to viper bites. Some get no symptoms at all, while others get very sick. These variations may be due to the amount of venom injected, the person's age, body weight, the site of the bite and the degree of physical activity after the bite.

  • Both children and adults should be observed in a hospital after viper bites. Therefore, go to the emergency room.

Prevent children from being bitten by a viper

Most viper bites have a benign disease course, but children and elderly people are particularly sensitive to viper bites, and approx. 10% develop a serious poisoning. You can prevent viper bites in children by paying attention to the following:

  • Children should wear rubber boots when playing in areas where vipers may be present
  • Teach children never to touch a viper.
